Agar is a jelly-like substance, obtained from red algae, used heavily as a solid medium for growing various microbes. Many specific formulations are available because some microbes prefer certain environmental conditions over others.
Burkholderia Cepacia Medium - A medium for the selective isolation of Burkholderia cepacia from the respiratory secretions of patients with cystic fibrosis and for routine testing of non-sterile inorganic salt solutions containing a preservative.
Preparation:
- Suspend 18.25 g in 500 ml of distilled water.

Mix well and sterilize by autoclaving at 121oC for 15 minutes.

Cool to 50oC and aseptically add the contents of one vial of Burkholderia cepacia Selective Supplement (SR189E) reconstituted as directed.
- Mix well and pour into sterile petri dishes.

Crystal violet 0.001; Agar 12.0.
