Sodium hexametaphosphate is a kind of hygroscopic salt that is used in antiseptics, detergents, textile processing, and food additives. When it absorbs moisture it becomes sticky, forming a viscous mixture with water. It can also be added to food as an emulsifier and foam stabilizer, often together with sodium tripolyphosphate.
